“Not in it for the money”

Have you ever looked down at a construction worker for doing his job for money? Did you ever spend a thought about whether a car mechanic has got some sort of ”noble goal” or if he is just doing his job for the paycheck? Are you okay with someone running a fashion store in order to make money?

Then why is it such a big deal if a gym owner wants to make money doing HIS/HER job? You do understand that being a gym owner is a JOB, right? Some jobs ARE more noble than others if you ask me, I would rather run a gym than sell candy for instance. I would rather be a teacher than manufacture guns. I would rather run a gym than sell tobacco.

I still need money to support my family since being a gym owner is my JOB. That is also the reason I want to be the best possible business owner and not some guessing amateur. There are so many reasons I need to be GREAT at running a gym and make profit:

  • My family deserve my best effort so I can help provide for them and hopefully take them on vacations sometimes.
  • My staff deserve my best effort so I can pay them for making their best to help others.
  • My members deserve my best effort so we can give them the best possible experience.
  • Society deserves my best effort so its inhabitants can be healthier
  • Other gym owners deserve my best effort so I can help build a good reputation around gyms and fitness
  • I deserve my best effort so I can live a fun and rewarding life. After all, I chose the risky path of becoming an entrepreneur and after all I chose the noble path of trying to help others live longer and better

Can you think of ONE good reason NOT to make your business profitable? Why is it so hard for some to accept that being business minded is EXACTLY what you need as a gym owner?

Do not think for a second that your mission is more noble because you ”are not in it for the money”. You are only fooling yourself and all of your followers. Do not think for a second that your true fans and followers would dislike you being profitable, if they are they are not your true fans and they don´t value your services.

Profit first, then you can help others, engage in charity, invest in equipment, take time off with family. Your choice 🙂
