Curious Not Furious
When we go through change processes there are always different reactions in different individuals. To better understand, and to better coach people through change, we can use the change curve below.
The model shows that individuals are likely to go into denial and anger when change ”happens” to them. When that happens, most leaders become frustraded and think their team is just stubborn, lazy and unwilling to change. They forget that, as leaders, they are often ahead in the process. They get furious…
Instead of getting furious, try being a bit curious. Talk to the individuals in your team and try to figure out their reasons for resisting. Only when you know WHY someone is resisting you can start helping them transition through the change process. Different individuals may have different reasons for resisting, it´s your job to find out.
